Uniform Measurements

General Uniform Regulations

Males
Male hair grooming: Must be tapered upwards 3/4 inch and outwards not greater than 3/4 inch. Must not touch collar. No longer than 4 inches and bulk shall not exceed 2 inches. Hair may not show under the front brim of any uniform cover.
Sideburns: Shall not extend below mid-ear.
Mustaches: Neat and closely trimmed. Shall not extend below the corners of the mouth. Shall not extend more than 1/4 inch beyond the corners of the mouth.
Fingernails: Will not extend past the fingertips.
Earrings/Studs: Not authorized in ear, nose, eyebrows, tongue, lips, or other areas of the face or body visible to the Naval Science Instructors.
Necklaces: Authorized, but shall not be visible.
Rings: One per hand is authorized.
Wristwatch/Bracelet: One of each is authorized, but no ankle bracelets.
Sunglasses: A conservative pair is permitted when authorized by the Naval Science Instructors. Sunglasses are never authorized in military formations. Retainer straps are not authorized.

Females
Hair: Braids, if worn will not dangle free at any point. Hair may not fall below the lower edge of the collar. Hair may not show under the front brim of any uniform cover. The bulk of the hair shall not exceed approximately 2 inches. Must not interfere with the proper wearing of your cover.
Hair Ornaments: Barrettes must be similar to hair color. Conspicuous rubber bands, combs and pins are not authorized.
Cosmetics: Colors blend with natural skin tone. Exaggerated or faddish cosmetics
Fingernails: Shall not be excessive in length. Nail polish color shall complement the skin tone are appropriate. Lipstick should be conservative.
Earrings/Studs: One per ear. Centered on the earlobe. Must be small gold or silver ball. Not authorized in the nose, eyebrows, tongue, Lips, or other areas of the body visible to the Naval Science Instructors.
Necklaces: Authorized, but shall not be visible.
Rings: One per hand is authorized, plus the engagement ring or the wedding ring.
Wristwatch/Bracelet: One of each is authorized, but no ankle bracelets.

Navy Service Uniform

UNISEX
JROTC Bar Insignia – is centered 1 and 7/8ths of an inch from the collar point on the wear’s left collar.
Rank/Rate Insignia – is centered 1 and 7/8ths of an inch from the collar point on the wear’s right collar.
Garrison Cap Small Fouled Anchor – is worn on the wearer’s left side, the center of the device is bisected by a vertical line 2 inches from the fore crease, and a horizontal line 1 and 1/2 inches from the bottom edge.
Garrison Cap Rank/Rate Insignia – is worn on the wearer’s right side, the center of the device is bisected by a vertical line 2 inches from the fore crease, and a horizontal line 1 and 1/2 inches from the bottom edge.
Medals – are positioned 1/4-inch below the ribbons.
Service Designation Star – is worn 1/4-inch above the top row of ribbons and centered on the wear’s right pocket button hole.
Team Commander’s Ribbons – worn on the wear’s right side centered above the name tag.
Aiguillettes – worn on the left side of the uniform, covering the shoulder sleeve seam. The only exception is the Leadership Academy aiguillette, which is worn on the right side of the uniform.

MALE
Ribbons – are worn parallel to the top of the shirt pocket, 1/4-inch above and centered on the wear’s left pocket button hole.
Name tag – are worn parallel to the top of the shirt pocket, 1/4-inch above and centered on the wear’s right pocket button hole.

FEMALE
Ribbons – Center horizontally over the front seam on the left side, with up to the lower three rows aligned to the bottom of the top button; additional ribbons go up upward.
Name tag – Center horizontally over the front seam on the right side, with the top of the nametag is aligned to the bottom of the top button.

Service Dress Blue Uniform

UNISEX
JROTC Bar Insignia – is centered 1 and 1/2 of an inch from the base of the lapel on the wear’s left lapel.
Rank/Rate Insignia – is centered 1 and 1/2 of an inch from the base of the lapel on the wear’s right lapel.
Garrison Cap Small Fouled Anchor – is worn on the wearer’s left side, the center of the device is bisected by a vertical line 2 inches from the fore crease, and a horizontal line 1 and 1/2 inches from the bottom edge.
Garrison Cap Rank/Rate Insignia – is worn on the wearer’s right side, the center of the device is bisected by a vertical line 2 inches from the fore crease, and a horizontal line 1 and 1/2 inches from the bottom edge.
Medals – are positioned 1/4-inch below the ribbons.
